iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS Repair Guide

Remove the Sim Card Tray by sticking a paper clip in the small hole at the bottom of the iPhone.

Remove the two screws on the left and right side of the dock connector

Slide the plastic opener tool between the chrome frame and the glass covering. Choose an entry point other than the location of the two screws you just removed. As soon as you feel the plastic opener tool sliding between the frame and glass, pry the glass upward.

Widen the gap between the chrome frame and the glass. When the gap is big enough to hold the screen assembly with your fingers, lift the screen/digitzer assembly to expose the connector cables. DO NOT pull the flex cables while they are still connected. Use the plastic opener tool to carefully pry loose the ribbon cable connectors in the order indicated by the orange numbers. Be sure to NOT pull the screen assembly before connector "3" has been disconnected. Open the very fragile connector latch and use extreme care while pulling ribbon cable number 3 out of the connector.

To begin removal of the logic board: remove the eight screws shown to the left. Lift the board slightly at the bottom and pull it gently towards the dock connector. It should then snap loose from the backplate.

To remove the sync connector, unscrew the three screws holding it in place. (one screw is located under the flap with the orange 4 label.
Step 7

Step 7 (Remove Battery)
The battery is glued onto the backplate. Slide the plastic opener tool under the battery to pry it loose. Be sure to not puncture or bend the batter in the process.
